Lead Poisoning Screening and Education Event

December 7, 2024, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Details

In partnership with CarePoint Clinic, Encompass is pleased to offer a free Lead Poisoning Prevention event for children birth to five years and their caregivers.

Saturday, December 7
9:00 am-12:00 pm
Encompass Early Learning Center
1407 Boalch Ave NW, North Bend

We will provide lead-level screenings and information about how to reduce lead exposure. A blood level screening will tell if a child has been exposed to lead in the last 3-4 months.

Screening Procedure:

A small amount of blood is taken from a child’s finger or heel to find out how much lead is in a child’s blood. Taking blood from a child’s finger or heel is called a finger or heel stick or a capillary test. A screening is optional!

We will also be providing testing of toys and soil samples to determine potential sources of lead exposure.

As part of the Washington Choose Safe Places program, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is proud to offer free testing for lead and arsenic that may be in the soil or toys of your home or early learning and education center. These contaminants harm children and staff, but you can take protective actions by getting your soil and/or toys tested.

Visit this ‘Toy and Soil Testing’ link for more information about lead hazards in toys and soils, if you should have them tested, and the appropriate way to collect a soil sample.

Registration is not required for this event.
