Circle of Security
At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. Using the COSP™ model developed by the Circle of Security originators, our trained Facilitators work with parents and caregivers to help them understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs, support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, enhance the development of their child’s self-esteem and honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure in relationships.
Trust-Based Relational Interventions
Trust-Based Relational Intervention® – Caregiver Training (TBRI-Caregiver Training) is an intervention for caregivers of children who have faced abuse, neglect, and/or other trauma. This program is designed to be highly interactive and is delivered by certified practitioners. TBRI-Caregiver Training uses an attachment-based and trauma-informed approach. It aims to provide parents and caregivers with the tools needed to meet the needs of these children. The training emphasizes three core principles: (1) TBRI Connecting Principles, which focus on building trust and positive relationships between caregivers and children; (2) TBRI Empowering Principles, which focus on addressing children’s physical and environmental needs and building children’s self-regulation skills; and (3) TBRI Correcting Principles, which focus on building children’s social competencies.
Invisible String
Kids commonly experience grief around things like the death of a loved one or beloved pet, incarceration of a family member, divorce/custody issues, or loss of an important friendship.
Using the book, The Invisible String by Patrice Karst, therapists will help the kids learn and identify that we are all connected by an invisible string. Everyone has an invisible string, and it can reach anywhere. Even though it is invisible, you can feel it with your heart. Working with the book’s message is that no one is ever alone, even when their loved one is not physically present. The Invisible String group will practice noticing their individual strings and the emotions connected to them, acknowledging them, and collectively identifying strategies that help them comfort, calm, and connect in safe, healthy ways. Kids will notice that some strings may feel stronger at times than others and will practice skills to work with these feelings instead of against them when they may feel overwhelming.
Wave Riders
Wave Riders is a special group designed for children 5-9 years old who are struggling with grief, loss, or unexpected life changes. Kids commonly experience grief around things like the death of a loved one or beloved pet, incarceration of a family member, divorce/custody issues, or loss of an important friendship. Therapists sometimes refer to the practice of acknowledging and honoring challenging emotions as “riding the wave”. It can be helpful to understand that some emotions are bigger and last longer than others but they don’t last forever. With practice and skill, we can learn to face the wave of emotion instead of trying to fight back against feelings that seem overwhelming. The Wave Riders group will practice noticing their individual emotions, acknowledging them and, collectively identify strategies that help them “Ride the Wave” in a safe, healthy way.
