Wave Riders – Winter Session

February 22, 2022, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Event Details

New winter session dates: February 8 – March 29!

Wave Riders is a special group designed for children 5-8 years old who are struggling with grief, loss, or unexpected life changes.

Kids commonly experience grief around things like the death of a loved one or beloved pet, incarceration of a family member, divorce/custody issues, or loss of an important friendship. More recently, many kids have experienced loss due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Therapists sometimes refer to the practice of acknowledging and honoring challenging emotions as “riding the wave”. It can be helpful to understand that some emotions are bigger and last longer than others but they don’t last forever. With practice and skill, we can learn to face the wave of emotion instead of trying to fight back against feelings that seem overwhelming and may overtake us. The Wave Riders group will practice noticing their individual emotions, acknowledging them and, collectively identifying strategies that help them “Ride the Wave” in a safe, healthy way.

Sessions begin on Tuesday, February 8, and will run weekly through March 29.

Groups are free, but registration is required. Please register at  https://tinyurl.com/2p9ekdts.

*Groups are limited to eight kids per session.
