Creating Connection: Using Play to Build Healthy Relationships

October 24, 2023, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Event Details

A free 2-part workshop for caregivers to learn strategies that help kids feel seen, heard, and valued

Because play is the language kids use to communicate, it’s important for parents to learn to send connected, loving messages through playful interaction. For many adults, this feels uncomfortable, silly, or embarrassing, or the child doesn’t seem to absorb the messages. This may be the result of in-utero stress, early medical intervention, depression, anxiety, sensory sensitivities, substance use, or life experiences. A wide variety of challenges can interrupt healthy, vibrant relationships.

This class will share tools that help you intentionally connect with your child. Using these tools will show your child they are precious and valued as they are and will meet a basic human need for acceptance and belonging. When a child is finally able to feel valued, only then can they start to experience felt safety within this trusting relationship and let go of the behaviors they are using to communicate their distress.

When: This workshop is a 2-part series that will meet on Tuesday mornings, October 17 and October 24 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.
